What is earwax?

Earwax (or cerumen) is the name of the substance secreted by the ceruminouse glands located in the cartilaginous part of the outer ear canal.

The glands which produce earwax are covered with muscular tissue which contracts to evacuate the earwax from these glands towards the outer ear canal.

Remember

Earwax can be secreted when contact is made with the epidermal layer (foreign body, pressure ...) but also in response to emotional stress.
